Mumbai Rains: IMD Warns of 'Flooding' as Forecast Says Rainfall Will Get More Intense Today

Mumbai has been hit by torrential rains since Tuesday. The Financial capital of the country that is fighting COVID-19 is also facing the brunt of nature. Heavy overnight rain in Mumbai has hit rail and road traffic after several parts in the city were water-logged. The weather department has warned of a flood-like situation in the low-lying areas.

The island city is expected to receive more rainfall. Train services on the Central and Harbour lines have been suspended due to waterlogging, Mumbai’s civic body – the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or BMC – tweeted this morning.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert (heavy rain at isolated places) for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad and an orange alert (heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places) for Palghar. The BMC has declared a holiday today due to the heavy downpour and have requested Mumbaikar’s to step out only if needed.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Mumbai will see ‘generally cloudy sky with heavy rain’ on Wednesday.
