Symptoms show up in people within two to 14 days of exposure to the virus. A person infected with the coronavirus is contagious to others for up to two days before symptoms appear. They will remain contagious to others for 10 to 20 days, depending upon the severity of their illness.

How Does It Spread?

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the recently discovered coronavirus. The fatal virus spreads through droplets of saliva or nose discharge when an infected person coughs or sneezes. But as per recent reports, the new strain may be airborne. It can spread through fine infected droplets that remain suspended in the air. They are mostly found in air-conditioned offices, AC cabs-buses, shopping malls, and theatres.

Some have mild COVID-19 illness whereas some are asymptomatic. But in some cases, the symptoms are quite severe and can lead to respiratory failure, lung and heart muscle damage, kidney failure, or death.

How To Protect Yourself From COVID-19:

Though governments have started vaccination drives to protect the citizens. The cases are still on a rise across the nation. Amid the fears of the fresh surge in Covid-19 cases, how can you protect yourself? Here are some tips to protect yourself and your near and dear ones from catching and spreading the virus.

Preventive Measures:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick, coughing, or sneezing.
  • Use a facemask when in crowded areas
  • Keep a distance of 6 feet from others when out of the house.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 70% alcohol while travelling
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces such as tabletops, phones, doorknobs
  • Avoid sharing personal items like glasses, dishes, etc.
  • Do not eat raw or undercooked animal products
  • Closed spaces with central air-conditioning like offices, malls, etc should be avoided..
  • Ensure proper nutrition through a balanced diet,
  • Maintain hydration with plenty of fluids,
  • Boost immunity through fresh fruit juices, herbal drinks, and turmeric milk.
  • Daily exercise and meditation.
