Javed Akhtar reveals his first thought after Shabana Azmi’s accident: ‘Is she alive’
In an interview, Javed Akhtar shares his first thoughts after seeing wife Shabana Azmi's car accident.
Earlier, this year, veteran actor Shabana Azmi was involved in a car accident near Kahalpur on Mumbai-Pune Expressway on January 18, 2020, later was rushed to the MGM hospital in Navi Mumbai and later shifted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital the same day. She returned home on February 1, 2020. Now, husband and lyricist Javed Akhtar shared his thoughts on seeing his wife’s accident.

Talking to the Film Companion, Javed Akhtar said, “Who could think we would have such a calamity. The accident that Shabana went through was really deadly. We were in the other car, she was sleeping in the car behind us and when this accident occurred and we went back, the first thought was ‘Is she alive?’ Because the whole car was crushed, had become a heap of junk. Somehow we took her out, she was unconscious with blood all over her face and it was only from the nose. There were no wounds but the whole body has taken such a whiplash, that it will take a little time to be totally normal.”
The veteran actress is fully recovered and took to her Twitter handle to thank everyone for the prayers, “Thank you all for your prayers and wishes for my recovery. I am back home now Thank you #Tina Ambani and Kokilaben Ambani hospital for the sterling care provided by the doctors team and the nursing staff. I am indebted and grateful,” she tweeted.
Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi have been together for 37 years and they tied the knot in a traditional Muslim ceremony, in 1984.
