The English winger scored the opener for the defending champions from a selfless cross off Leroy Sane. The German forward came up from the left in front of an open goal and it calmly netted by Sterling to score his fourth goal of the season. After the break, it was Argentine forward and City’s most prolific goalscorer Aguero who scored the team’s second and his 15th in 11 League appearances at the Etihad as the defending champions geared up in style for their match against title favourites Liverpool on October 7.

At the Emirates, it was Arsenal who crept into the top five of the table for the first time with a 2-0 win over Watford.

Craig Cathcart netted an own goal as late as in the 81st minute of the match and just two minutes later, Mesut Ozil scored the team’s second and the insurance goal as the Unai Emery led Arsenal won their seventh match in a row.

At the John Smith’s stadium, it was a Harry Kane brace that set up a comfortable victory for Tottenham Hotspurs. The English forward netted in the 25th and 34th minutes.

Elsewhere, Everton secured a 3-0 win over Fulham.
