Manvendra Singh, Son of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jaswant Singh on Saturday quit the party saying ‘joining the BJP was his mistake’ at his Swabhiman rally in Rajasthan’s Barmer district. He further said, Kamal ki phool gamari Bhool thi (choosing lotus was my mistake).

Manvendra Singh has been campaigning vigorously in his constituency ever since he had announced a rally for ‘fight for self-respect’ of voters. He is quoted as saying, “There have been many rallies on Gaurav (pride) and Sankalp (determination) but today’s rally is the biggest – it is the rally for Swabhiman (self-respect), said Manvendra Singh, adding that ‘Swabhiman is our right and we are committed to it.’

Manvendra Singh’s tie worsened with BJP after a strong leader and his father Jaswant Singh was denied and not given a party ticket from Barmer-Jaisalmer Lok Sabha constituency in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

He said, “When his father was denied a ticket, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited him in 2014 and said, “we have very old relations and whatever has happened about the Barmer ticket is very sad.”

He also claimed PM Modi had said that, somebody in Jaipur and two people from Delhi are behind this conspiracy. Taking dig at BJP he said, “He had talked about all issues with them but nothing has been done.” He further said, wounds are getting deeper but there is nobody to listen.

Claiming that the issue is ‘beyond Barmer’, he stressed his supporters to “Keep the spark alive… keep it going… spread it in Rajasthan,” said Manvendra Singh. He openly challenged Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and said, “a storm is brewing here and it’s headed eastwards…it’s a storm that will reach Jaipur.”

After quitting the BJP, he has not mentioned any Party’s name to join. Whether he will join Congress or some other party is yet to be ascertained. When asked,  he said,  “I will go by what people here say.”
