Maratha Kranti Morcha: Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai exempted from bandh

On August 9, the entire Maratha community will be on the roads to demand for Maratha reservation. On 9th August, Maharashtra Bandh was announced however, Mumbai and Thane has been exempted. After the meeting with the police, the Maratha Samayavik Samiti has been informed the media and the citizens about this decision. As of now the agitations will be held only in four places.

According to sources the agitation will be held on 9th August throughout the state for Maratha reservation. The decision was taken in a meeting of Maratha protesters and Thane police on Wednesday . As per the police, Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Parli cities will be excluded from tomorrow’s Maharashtra Bandh. After discussions in this meeting that people are not well-prepared for frequent bandhs, the protestors have decided to exclude these four cities from the shutdown. Although these four cities were excluded from the block, the Maratha Movement Coordination Committee has decided to make a stance in these cities.

The agitation is going on for the Maratha reservation since the last 21 days in the state. During this time there was a violent turn of the movement in many places. Therefore, in the backdrop of the bandh call called on August Kranti Day. The entire state will have police security. Solapur, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Aurangabad, Latur and Raigad etc. will be on high alert. State government employees in the state are also said to be on a strike and this would have worsened the Maharashtra government’s woes.

On July 25, the march had took a violent turn in Navi Mumbai, and one reportedly died in it. This decision was taken by the MLA Narendra Patil in a press conference.
