Maya Hawke also shared that she’s very annoyed with her parent’s generation during an interview with Nylon. She said, “They had it so easy, they were all just high and driving around in cool, gas guzzling cars. Destroying our environment and voting for the wrong people, and having no wars and no plagues and no pandemics.”

She went on to compare their parent’s time to her own. She said, “We’re in our 20s, we’re supposed to be having fun, and doing drugs, and partying. But instead … we have to be worried about our planet dying, and we have to worry about this pandemic, and we have a horrible president, and it’s just really irritating, and they really f–ked us.”

Maya Hawke is also resentful that the independent life she had begun to build with her own apartment in New York City has come to a halt with the COVID-19 lockdown. She is back home and helping homeschool her four younger siblings.

“I moved out and got my whole life together and became a person,” Hawke stated. “And this disease is like, ‘Ha ha ha, just kidding! You’re a kid, and you live with your parents.'”

The young actor admitted that there were days that included “a significant amount of crying”. Maya Hawke headed home once production on Season 4 of Stranger Things was stopped. She is now splitting her time between her parents, Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman.

“I’m in mourning for my life,” she said. “That’s a joke. I’m fine. I’m very fortunate. But totally depressed and confused.”

However, despite her privileges, the actor says she feels like she is going through the stages of grief.

“I was angry about it. I was in denial. And then I was bargaining: I’m going to fix it! And now I’m in resignation or whatever. I’m just sort of like, this is my new forever.” she said.
