Mayawati said, “It seems like entire law and order in Uttar Pradesh has crumbled.” She added, “If I were the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh I would have taken action fast against accused cops and then met the victim’s family.”

Mayawati was pointing fingers to Yogi Adityanath’s meeting with Vivek Tiwari’s family on early Monday. The victim Vivek Tiwari, an assistant sales manager with Apple Inc, was in a car with his colleague Sana Khan during the time of incident near Gomti Nagar. The bullet pierced the windshield of the SUV and hit Tiwari in the throat.

The incident drew severe criticism and sharp reactions not only from India but from other countries too. Earlier in the day, victim’s family members met CM Adityanath. Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma escorted Tiwari’s wife, brother-in-law and his two daughters to the official residence of Adityanath for a meeting.

After meeting with Adityanath, victim’s wife Kalpana Tiwari said, “All my demands have been met. I wanted strict action against the guilty, a job, accommodation, expenses for education of my daughters and my mother-in-law. The Chief Minister accepted all my demands.”

“My faith has been restored after meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. I had lost the capacity to take a stand after the unfortunate incident, which should not have happened. It has completely shaken me. But after meeting Yogi Adityanath, I have gained confidence that I will be able to fulfill the responsibilities my husband left on my shoulders,” She further said.

Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma said, “I was in touch with the family members, who are known to us, and met them Sunday after arriving in Lucknow. The family members had been in BJP too in the past and they did not want politics in the matter.”
