According to the defence spokesperson Colonel Sombit Ghose, the pilot was able to escape unhurt in the accident. The crash of the Mikoyan MiG-27, a fighter jet, resulted in a fire and engulfed the area with thick smoke.  A Fire brigade and Airforce officers were rushed to the spot.

According to the report, the pilot avoided the dense population area and crashed on an open field. Due to his timely decision, the major accident has been averted.  After noticing a thin smoke emanating from the spot, villager rushed to the spot.

According to an eyewitness, when he reached the spot, two to three Air India flights were flying and one of them was seen emanating smoke and suddenly came down with a louder noise and the entire area was engulfed in the thick smoke.

The pilots were rushed to a local hospital in an air ambulance. The helicopter had taken off from the Jodhpur airbase before it crashed in the field. “A MiG 27 aircraft airborne from Jodhpur crashed during a routine mission today morning. The pilot ejected safely. A Court of Inquiry will investigate the cause of the accident,” Ghosh said.
