Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to increase the ‘minimum support price’ of crops as a eyewash, Congress president Rahul Gandhi alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party-led government is mocking the poor farmers of country, by waiving a small amount of loan and called the move as applying a Band-Aid to a massive haemorrhage.

Taking the help of social media, Gandhi targetted Modi by saying that just by increasing the MSP and budgeting it at Rs 15,000 crore for country’s 120 million ailing farmers, the move is not going to help in the real sense and will be just a Band-Aid to a massive haemorrhage. He tweeted, “PM’s grand MSP increase is budgeted at just 15,000 Cr. for India’s 120 million farmers; which is like applying a Band-Aid to a massive haemorrhage.”

Adding further that, in perspective of the budget H D Kumaraswamy’s budget which had waived a mall farmer loans of over Rs 34,000 Crore, Modi’s budget is like peanuts. He said, “To put this MSP increase in perspective: in Karnataka, we’ve waived small farmer loans of over 34,000 Cr!”

Claiming that the Karnataka Budget as action oriented and Modi’s declaration as marketing oriented, Gandhi said that Congress-JDS coalition government will act on a commitment to waive farmer loans and make farming more profitable. With this Kumaraswamy’s farmers’ friendly budget, Karnataka would become a beacon of hope for farmers all across India.

Gandhi tweeted, “On the eve of the Karnataka Budget, I’m confident our Congress-JDS coalition Govt will act on our commitment to waive farmer loans & to make farming more profitable. This budget is an opportunity for our Govt. to make Karnataka a beacon of hope for farmers all across India.”

Narendra Modi had announced a Rs 200 hike in MSP for paddy, after which political comments made the rounds.
