Brajesh Thakur threat to life

In another twist in the case of the Homes of Horror in Bihar, Brajesh Thakur, the prime accused in the Muzaffarpur shelter home case, has claimed that there looms a threat to his life in the jail. He was arrested two months ago and has since been lodged in the Muzaffarpur jail. He feels threatened by the Maoist rebels lodged in the jail with him.

Previously it came to light that over 30 girls were allegedly raped at the center run by Brajesh Thakur, the chief of the state-funded NGO.

An audit report submitted by Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), Mumbai allegedly exposed the sexual exploitation of the girls.

Based on an FIR lodged against 11 people, including Thakur on May 31, a probe was launched which was then taken over by the CBI.

“I strongly fear a threat to my life in the jail,” Thakur informed the local court when he was produced before it via video conference and its intervention.

The court refused to intervene stating that it was the jail’s matter. Only this week was he shifted to the prisoners ward from the hospital ward. Brajesh Thakur headed the NGO Sankalp Seva Evam Vikas Samiti, where the sexual abuse of a number of inmates was registered.

Previously, the Supreme Court had pulled up the Bihar government for funding the NGO. The former had also issued a notice to the Bihar Government and the Centre seeking a detailed reply from them in connection with the case. Upon being medically examined it was ascertained that 29 of the 42 shelter home inmates were sexually exploited.
