Alleged financial irregularities over his transfer from Santos to Barcelona five years ago have led the prosecutors to seek for a two-year sentence for the forward. The court on Wednesday stated that the sentence could be of six years if Neymar is found guilty.

However, the Paris Saint-Germain star could avoid jail time because jail sentences of two years or less, for first-time offences are generally suspended. Nonetheless, it would be a setback to the star who has now moved on to a different challenge in France’s Ligue 1.

A Brazilian investment company brought about the charges on the footballer wherein they stated that they received a lesser amount as compensation when the Brazilian star moved from Santos to the La Liga.

Also, Neymar’s parents, Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu have been charged of the same offence and would be put on trial, the date of which isn’t fixed yet.
