The student has been identified as Anand Pathak (20), belonged to Latur in Maharashtra. Pathak was pursuing mechanical engineering. The incident has triggered a widespread student protest, alleging that professor’s constant nagging forced him to take this extreme step.

Following the suicide, students in the institute gathered on the campus and raised slogans against the professor who had allegedly humiliated Anand Pathak.

The protesting student alleged that Anand Pathak was running short of attendance and was often pulled up by the professor who had told him that he would fail in the semester examination.

The protesting students also demanded suspension of the professor and set up a committee to probe the issue, the police said.
