Gujarat rape: Politicians start blame game as migrants flee state

179

Soon after the alleged rape of toddler in Gujarat took place, hundreds of migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar were targetted by Gujarati people. This forced the workers to leave the state and politicisation on the issue kicked in. On one side Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani claims that situation is under control, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath accuses opposition of creating tension in the state.

Speaking to the reporters, Rupani stated that their government have brought law and order under control, and requested the workers not to leave the state. He said, as reported by ANI, “The situation is under control in Gujarat, appeal to people to maintain peace and brotherhood. The culprit of the rape case was arrested within 24 hours. We will ensure severe punishment for the culprit.”

On other side, UP CM Adityanath claims that he has spoken to Rupani and sorted issues. He also accused the opposition of trying to create tensions among the Gujaratis and non-Gujaratis. He said, “Gujarat CM has clearly told me that no such incident has taken place in last 3 days. People who are jealous of development in Gujarat are spreading such rumours. Effective steps have been taken by Gujarat government.”

However, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav was of the opinion that miscreants from Gujarat are forcing people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to flee, while in both the states and Centre BJP rules. “Can’t the government and Bihar and UP stop these violence by Gujarati miscreants? Don’t fear from Modi-Shah to this extent.”

Speaking on a similar tone, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav stated that some people in Gujarat are trying to destroy the peace in the state and forcing migrants to flee. He blamed the state central government for this chaos and held BJP responsible.

Coming back to rescue the Gujarat’s BJP government, minister Pradeepsingh Jadeja has requested migrant workers to stay in the state. He stated that over 450 people have been arrested in connection with attacking migrant workers and the state police are making all possible efforts to keep the condition under control. He further added that a report has also been submitted to central government.

Whatever, be the the case and statements of the politicians on the issue, the major sufferers are those migrants waiting in the railway platforms and bus terminals. Most of them do not have enough cash to return back home and adding on, they do not know what will they do after returning home. Looks like 2019 Lok Sabha elections will be interesting this time.
