Opinion poll predicts Congress victory in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh

Surveys carried out before the state elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh predict a Congress victory. The opposition party has been predicted to upstage the ruling BJP party in Rajasthan, while also it leads the support in the other two states.

According to a report in Firstpost, surveys carried out by two opinion polls – namely the ABP News-CVoter and C fore has predicted Congress to singlehandedly win 50 per cent of the votes in Rajasthan. The two opinion polls also expect the party to win 124 and 124-138 seats respectively in the 200-member Rajasthan.

The ABP News-CVoter also predicted the outcome of the elections in both Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh – both of which are ruled by BJP of the last 15 years – favouring Congress to surpass their opposition in both the states.

It predicts 122 seats in the 230-member MP and 47 seats in the 90-member for Chhattisgarh for Congress. While the BJP, it claims will win 108 and 40 seats respectively in both the states.

The Bharatiya Janata Party had swept the state elections in all the three states in 2013 by winning 164, 142 and 49 seats in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, which was way more than the 58, 21 and 39 seats won by the Congress.

But despite, the opinion polls predicting otherwise, the ruling party remained confident of its return to the helm at the state following the elections. BJP law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had claimed that the saffron party will script a record victory solely based on his hard work and care for the people.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission had on Saturday announced the assembly polls date in all the three states along with Mizoram and Telangana. The polls will be held from 12 November to December 7.

Chhattisgarh will hold polls in two phases on 12 November and 20 November, while the elections in Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram will be held on 28 November. Finally, the Polling in Rajasthan and Telangana will be held on 7 December. Counting of votes will be taken up in all the five states on 11 December.
