Supreme Court Issues Notice To Centre On Pleas for probe on Pegasus Project

The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Centre on Tuesday on Pegasus Project. It has sought a reply within 10 days from the Central Government. It is on a batch of petitions demanding an independent probe into the Pegasus snooping issue.

The Apex Court however made it clear that the government need no disclose anything that might compromise national security. This was affirmed by the bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana. It was in response to the government’s revelation that divulging information on affidavits would involve aspect of national security.

The apex court said it will take up the pleas for hearing after 10 days. They will then see what course of action should be adopted in the matter.

The court is hearing a batch of pleas, including the one filed by the Editors Guild of India, seeking an independent probe into the matter. These pleas are related to the reports of alleged snooping by government agencies on eminent citizens, politicians and scribes. An Israeli firm NSO’s spyware Pegasus was used for it.
