Rahul Gandhi set to visit Kailash-Mansarovar on Friday

177

Congress president Rahul Gandhi is doing all he could to bring the Indian National Congress to a pedestal it was for all these years, before plunging to a historic low in the last general elections in 2014. So much so, that even attending several religious events are being considered to suit the time and demand.

The Gandhi scion is set to be on a pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar on Friday, August 31. Rahul had made it clear that he would do the same after the Karnataka elections are over. However, Congress managed to form the government in Karnataka in coalition with JD(S) as the senior partner despite the age-old party securing more seats than its partners.

The Congress president is scheduled to arrive in the capital on Wednesday evening after having taken a couple of days’ visit to the flood-hit Kerala. In Kerala also, he took active interests in overseeing the conditions and assuring the victims of proper rehabilitation.

According to information received, Rahul is taking the China route to travel to Kailash-Mansarovar and the not the Nepal route.

It may be recalled that only this April when he was campaigning for the Karnataka elections, he made it a point to visit the Kailash-Mansarovar after having saved by a whisker while travelling. The 47-year-old’s aircraft which was travelling from Delhi to Bangalore had developed a technical snag in the air and dipped down several feet giving everybody a scare for the time being.

Since then he has been harbouring hope of going for the pilgrimage but it was delayed due to the Congress supremo’s Chocó block schedule. Only last week he had to visit Germany and England for work related purpose. According to his party, Rahul says he is a Shiva devotee and he desperately wanted to visit Kailash-Mansarovar in build-dup to the 2019 general elections which coincide with several state elections.

Following the temple visits, the Gandhi scion is slated to visit Madhya Pradesh to launch Congress’ election campaign there. The annual Kailash-Mansarovar pilgrimage is scheduled to end on September 8.
