A constitutional process is being followed to detect illegal immigrants in Assam and no genuine Indian citizen would be victimized due to the National Register of Citizens (NRC). This was said by BJP general secretary Ram Madhav on Friday.

While speaking at the session ‘Insider, Outsider – Citizen Kaun’ of India Today Conclave East 2018 in Kolkata, Ram Madhav said that India will not deport any citizen without following a constitutional process. “A process is being followed in India and no single genuine Indian citizen will be affected or victimized,” he quoted.

He further said that the Immigrants (Expulsion From Assam) Act, 1950 was started by the then prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. “Preparation of NRC is a continuation of what had started in 1950, he said, adding that all infiltrators will be detected,” Madhav added.

The BJP general secretary also noted that no country will allow infiltrators on its soil. “Saudi Arabia deported 70,000 illegal immigrants in its country last year. They were either from Pakistan or Bangladesh. Some were from India as well,” he added.

In the end, Ram Madhav stated that people who have been left out of the final draft of the NRC have two months to file complaints. “And, even if the final version of the NRC leaves those people out, then those affected can approach the Foreigners’ Tribunal. Those left out can then appeal to a high court,” he informed.
