Following suit after Brajesh Thakur, the prime accused in the Muzaffarpur Shelter Scandal, Rajya Sabha MP and Rashtriya Janata Dal member complained to the Bihar police on August 20. He alleged that he received a death threat through an SMS from an unidentified number. An FIR was registered following the complaint.

Nihar Bhushan, SHO of Shastri Nagar Police Station said that an FIR had been lodged against unknown persons on the basis of a written complaint by Rajya Sabha MP Ahmad Ashfaque Karim. Karim lives in an apartment in Ashiyana Nagar locality and said that he had allegedly received the threat via text messaging.

Karim was elected to the Upper House in April 2018 and is a businessman who also runs a number of educational institutes.

According to the complaint registered, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) member said that he received the SMS sometime around the afternoon and it had made him worry about the safety of himself and his family.

The SHO said, “We are investigating the matter. The number from which the message was sent would be put on surveillance and the sender would be nabbed.”
