Indore: Sacked scribe blackmails editor for Rs 5 cr, drives him to commit suicide

A week after an editor of a renowned Hindi daily, Kalpesh Yagnik, allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the third storeyed building, that offices the daily, a case has been booked against a former female employee, Saloni Arora, in Indore on Friday, reports Indian Express.  According to the report, Arora was allegedly blackmailing Yagnik for Rs 5 crore and has threatened to post the pics and videos on social media.

The report further says that, Yagnik had sacked Arora in January this year, who worked with the Dainik Bhaskar group since 2007. Adding more information, SHO of MIG police station Tehzeeb Kazi, while speaking with TOI had said, “Arora was miffed with Yagnik after being sacked. The FIR was registered against her based on the initial investigation and statements by Yagnik’s relatives.”

As per to the information, an Indore police team had visited Arora’s flat in Shastri Nagar area in Andheri (West) and found it locked. Taking the help of Amboli police, the team entered the house and have found that Arora had fled after hearing the news of Yagnik’s demise.

According to the information, Yagnik had complained to the Additional Director General of Indore Ajay Kumar Sharma about being blackmailed by Arora a few days ago before committing suicide on July 12. He had also alleged that he was being blackmailed and demanded a whopping amount of Rs 5 crore, else videos of him misbehaving with Arora would be posted on YouTube, reports TOI. 

Based on the complaint filed by Yagnik’s brother Neeraj Yagnik, police on Friday booked Saloni Arora under Sections 386 (extortion), 503 (criminal intimidation) and 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC and Section 67A of the IT Act for allegedly threatening to circulate in electronic form sexually explicit images.

Adding more police informed that they have searched a few places in Neemuch and Ratlam, but could not find the absconding journalist. Arora was sacked after she was transferred to Mumbai and then she started blackmailing the editor to reinstate her using his clout.
