According to a report from the agency, Spain’s PM Sanchez was on a visit to the Moroccan capital with their Prime Minister Saadedin Al Othmani and King Mohamed to discuss the possibility of bidding for the world’s biggest football showpiece.

“I made a proposal to the government (of Morocco) to organise a joint bid between Spain, Portugal, and Morocco to host the 2030 World Cup,” Sanchez told a news conference, reports the agency.

“We are launching a joint message, which is that this will be a bid between two continents. The King of Morocco is receptive, and we’re going to work on it with Portugal. We’re very excited about it.”

The last time World Cup came to Spain was in 1982. They also had launched a joint bid with Portugal to host the 2018 tournament but lost to Russia.

Portugal on the other has never hosted the World Cup and their only major football tournament was the 2004 Euro Championship in which they lost the final to Greece.

Similarly, Morocco has never staged the global piece. They had launched a failed bid at the 2026 World Cup, which will be co=hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
