Shah Rukh Khan is one of the biggest and most bankable stars in Bollywood, even today. However, before making it big in filmdom, he began his acting journey with television. King Khan ad garnered a huge fan following with his popular shows like ‘Fauji’, ‘Dil Dariya’, ‘Circus’, ‘Doosra Keval’ that had streamed on Doordarshan in the ’80s and the ’90s. Later, the actor then made his Bollywood debut with ‘Deewana’, in 1992.

King Khan has delivered a lot of prosperous movies in his career and some of them have even made it to the millionaire club. However, the star has also refused some films, which went on to become blockbusters at the box office. In this article, we bring to you the list of movies rejected by Shah Rukh Khan.

Blockbusters films rejected by Shah Rukh Khan:

Ek Tha Tiger:

Kabir Khan had approached King Khan for ‘Ek Tha Tiger’. However, the actor had to turn down the offer due to date concerns. He was working on Yash Chopra’s ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ at the time and couldn’t accept another film in his diary. Later, the film went to Salman Khan which became a blockbuster.

3 Idiots:

The movie ‘3 Idiots’ as well know is based on Chetan Bhagat’s popular novel ‘Five Point Someone.’ SRK revealed at Karan Johar’s talk show ‘Koffee with Karan’ that he rejected the movie and he also called himself the fourth idiot for rejecting the film. Later, director Rajkumar Hirani moved on to Aamir Khan with his script and that’s how ‘3 Idiots’ went on to be the highest grosser in the history of Indian cinema.

Munna Bhai MBBS:

Munna Bhai MBBS was director Rajkumar Hirani’s first film and it was actually first offered to Shah Rukh Khan which he rejected and later the role was passed on to Sanjay Dutt.

Kaho Naa….Pyaar Hai:

Rakesh Roshan’s original decision for ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai’ was none other than King Khan. However, the actor declined the script for some unnamed purpose and the part went to Hrithik Roshan who made his Bollywood debut with this movie. The film established Hrithik as the new Bollywood heartthrob and the film went on to become a super hit movie.

 

Lagaan:

Ashutosh Gowariker’s first offered ‘Lagaan’ to Aamir Khan but the actor rejected to get associated with the movie. Later, Gowarikar passed on to Shah Rukh Khan with the proposal, who also denied the film. However, Aamir was finally satisfied with the role and the film went on to become one of the remarkable movies of all time.  Lagaan also became the third Indian film to be nominated for the Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Rang De Basanti:

Just like the other films, Shah Rukh Khan was first approached for ‘Rang De Basanti,’ unfortunately the star rejected the film and Aamir Khan was chosen for the lead. However, the film became a blockbuster and was nominated at the BAFTA Awards, Golden Globe Awards and the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category besides winning the Filmfare Award.

Jodhaa Akbar:

Prior to Hrithik Roshan, King Khan was the first choice, however, the actor rejected as the film had a tough shooting schedule with faraway spots. It is claimed that Shah Rukh needed to spend more time with his kids during their vacation and hence he turned down the film.
