Twilight Prequel Midnight Sun Finally Coming Out
Stephenie stated that she hoped the book will provide a distraction from the COVID-19 pandemic
Author Stephenie Meyer made an announcement that is sure to thrill fans of Twilight. The author announced that Midnight Sun, a long-planned prequel to the Twilight series, will finally be releasing in 2020. It explores the beloved story through the perspective of vampire Edward Cullen. In addition, the new book will also explore the Cullen’s past.
Speaking on ABC’s Good Morning America show, Stephenie stated that she hoped the book will provide a distraction from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s a crazy time right now, and I wasn’t sure if this was the right time to put this book out, but some of you have been waiting for just so, so long. It didn’t seem fair to make you wait anymore.”
The original Twilight books sold over 100 million copies. Moreover, they were also adapted into a mega-successful film series. The films starred Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner in pivotal roles. Robert Pattinson is now gearing up to play The Batman. Meanwhile, Kristen Stewart was part of the recent Charlie’s Angels movie.
Midnight Sun has been a long time coming. Stephenie Meyer released a partial draft of the book’s first chapter in 2008. However, after a copy of the manuscript was leaked online, the author canceled the project.
“I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on ‘Midnight Sun,'” Meyer said in a 2008 blog post, “and so it is on hold indefinitely.”
There have been many false starts to the project since. The author has released The Host and The Chemist since then. The Twilight series even spawned the wildly successful Fifty Shades of Grey which started out as a Twilight fan fiction.
“I have a feeling Midnight Sun is somewhat cursed,” the author had told the crowd at New York Comic-Con that year.
