Kohli meanwhile also became the first Asian captain to win Test matches in England, South Africa and Australia.

The Indian side led by Kohli in tours of South Africa and England did well but failed to attain the desired results and had to return with losses.

But in Australia, they capitalised on the absence of Steve Smith and David Warner and got a flying start to the series with a 31-run win in Adelaide.

The win was orchestrated by efforts from Cheteshwar Pujara, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin.

This win was also India’s first win in Tests since 2007 when the team led by Anil Kumble had tasted victory in Perth.

Rishabh Pant in the meantime also etched his name in history when he matched the world record set by Jack Russell and AB De Villiers for the maximum number of catches taken by a wicketkeeper in a Test match.

With 11 matches in the match, Pant surpassed Wriddhiman Saha’s feat of 10 catches in a match. The left-hander nonetheless had an opportunity to go past the world record of 12 catches but a dropped a chance to dismiss Nathan Lyon in the second session on the fifth day.
