Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has said that he is ending his association with Indian Premier League franchise Kings XI Punjab. Sehwag mentored the Punjab franchise in 2016 and assumed the role of director of cricket operations just last year.

Sehwag took to Twitter to reveal the development on Saturday.

“All good things must come to an end and I’ve had a wonderful time at Kings 11 Punjab, for 2 seasons as a player and 3 as a mentor,” his tweet read. “My association with Kings 11 comes to an end and I am thankful for the time I have had here and wish the team all the very best for the times ahead.”

Sehwag started off his IPL career while playing for the Delhi Daredevils before he switched to the Kings XI Punjab, for whom he played just two seasons–2014 and 2015. In this period, he went into play 25 matches for the Preity Zinta-owned team where he aggregated 554 runs, which includes a hundred.

In 2016, Kings XI finished at the bottom of the pile but they had a change of fortunes the following year when they almost made it to the play-offs but ended at the fifth-placed team.

They looked strong enough to challenge for the title this year when they won five out of the seven games they played in the first half of the competition. But much to their woes, they could manage just one win out of the remaining seven as they finished seventh
