Yet another Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Usha Thakur has made a controversial statement against women saying women do compromises for the sake of some personal gains. The BJP leader Usha Tkahur is a legislator from Indore.

Thakur said, “Some women do compromises on their values and ideologies in order to gain some personal gains and promotion.”

Usha Thakur’s statement comes at a time when social media campaign #MeToo gained its momentum in India. Women from all walks of lives coming forward to speak up their assaults. She has tried to downplay the rising voice of women by stating that the movement #MeToo is being used in a wrong way.

Thakur further said, “This is why women end up in troubles.” This is not the first time when Usha Thakur has made a controversial statement.

In 2014, Thakur stirred a row after banning of Muslim youths from Navratri Garba venues. She had further asked the organisers to ensure that girls participating in Garba festivities are “decently” dressed up.

Later that month, she had advised the Muslim community to either sacrifice their sons or give up the practice of sacrificing innocent animals on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.

Thakur also reportedly performed aarti of controversial godman Asaram’s photograph, who is in prison for an alleged sexual harassment case.

She was not the only BJP leader who tried to suppress the voice of #MeToo. Last week, Chief of Madhya Pradesh BJP women also cast doubts on claims being made by certain women journalists. “I welcome the MeToo campaign but I don’t consider women journalists to be so innocent that anyone can misuse them,” she said.

The government, however, has maintained a stony silence on the matter. Union Minister Akbar, on the other hand, dismissed all the allegations as false and baseless.

“Why has this storm risen a few months before a general election? Is there an agenda? You be the judge. These false, baseless and wild allegations have caused irreparable damage to my reputation and goodwill,” Akbar said.
