In a statement, the Raj Bhavan-led by Governor Banwarilal Purohit accused the magazine of indulging in “yellow journalism” and denied any links between him and the college professor accused in the case.

The statement read, “Nirmala Devi has never entered Raj Bhavan in the last one year and she does not have any acquaintance with the Honourable Governor or the Secretary to the Governor, or any of the officers working in Raj Bhavan.”

Notably, the statement comes three days after R R Gopal, an editor of Tamil weekly Nakkheeran was arrested at Chennai airport for allegedly publishing a defamatory article against Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

The arrest followed a complaint that he had published stories linking the office of the Governor with Assistant professor Nirmala Devi, who was arrested recently for luring college girls to do sexual favours for Madura Kamraj University officials in return for marks and money recently.

However, a court in Chennai dismissed the city police’s request for the judicial custody of ‘Nakkheeran’ editor R R Gopal.

Earlier, in a leaked audio clip, Devi claimed that she knew Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, who is also the chancellor of a university. The magazine had carried a cover story alleging that Devi met Purohit four times.
