Asian Para-Games 2018: Archer Harvinder Singh fetches India a seventh gold medal

There was a recurve gold in store for India with archer Harvinder Singh winning the top prize on Wednesday while the track-and-field athletes bagged a silver and a bronze in the Asian Para-Games in Jakarta.

Singh got the better of China’s Zhao Lixue  6-0 in the final of the W2/ST category to give India her seventh gold medal in the competition.
The W2 category includes athletes with paraplegia, diplegia or double leg amputation below the knee, which requires a wheelchair. Archers with limited impairment and can shoot without a wheelchair fall in the ST category.
Monu Ghangas won the silver in men’s discus throw F11 category while the bronze medal was won by Mohammed Yasser in the men’s shot put F46 category.
His silver medal-winning throw of 35.89 came in his third attempt as he finished behind Olad Mahdi of Iran who came up with a record throw of 42.37 m. The F11 category deal with athletes who are visually impaired.
Yasser’s throw of 14.22 won him the bronze medal in the shot put F46 event. The silver medal was won by Mansurbayev Ravil from Kazakhstan who came up with an effort of 14.66 m. C
Wei Enlong from China not only bagged the gold medal but also made a new record at the Games with a throw of 15.67 m. This impairment includes athletes with limb deficiency, impaired range of movement and muscle power.
