Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in a statement today, “The government of India will develop a Kartarpur Corridor from Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur, Punjab to the International Border to facilitate pilgrims from India to visit the holy Gurudwara Darbaar Sahib Kartarpur on the banks of Rabi river in Pakistan where Guru Nanak Devji spend 18 years.”

Notably, the Kartarpur Corridor is a proposed border-corridor (border gate) between India and Pakistan connecting the Sikh Holy shrine of Dera Baba Nanak Sahib to the holy shrine of Kartarpur Sahib (also referred to as Kartarpur Gurdwara )states of Punjab in India and Pakistan respectively.

Apparently, the main objective of this upcoming corridor is to facilitate the crossing of religious devotees to visit the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, located in Narowal District, Pakistan, which is about 120 km from the city of Lahore but only three kilometres from the Indian side of the border.

The historical Kartarpur Gurudwara is situated on the banks of river Ravi and is considered to be the first gurdwara ever built. It is also known as Darbar Sahib Kartarpur.

Is it friendly step taken by the government to strengthen the bond India and Pakistan. Do let us know your views in the comment section below.
