Except Daati Maharaj, these six self-styled godman are facing rape charges

The Delhi police Crime Branch on Monday lodged a charge sheet against self-styled godman Daati Maharaj in the alleged rape case. Daati Maharaj has been charged under sections 376, 377 of the Indian Penal Code at Saket District Court in New Delhi.

Notably, the filing of charge sheet comes almost three months after the FIR was registered against Daati Maharaj. The FIR was lodged against the self-proclaimed guru Daati Maharaj on June 11 this year.
Like Daati Maharaj, there are six other noted self-styled godmans who have been facing rape charges.

Asaram Bapu

Self -styled godman Asaram Bapu was found guilty for the rape of a 16-year-old girl. A total of five charges have been levelled against Asaram Bapu includes raping a minor girl, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy and sexual harassment.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, chief of spiritual sect Dera Sacha Sauda was declared guilty in a rape case by a special CBI court in Panchkula. The victim accused Ram Rahim Singh of repeatedly raping her inside the Dera campus near Sirsa in Haryana. Gurmeet Ram Rahim also has two murder charges against him.

Swami Premanand

Swami Premamnanda, a popular self-styled Godman was convicted for raping 13 girls and was put through two consecutive life sentences.

Swami Amrita Chaitanya

Another spiritual guru Swami Amrita Chaitanya was accused in several cheating cases; sentenced to16 years in prison in 2009 for raping two minor girls and producing pornographic films of underage girls.

Paramahamsa Nithyananda

Charges of rape were levelled against controversial self-styled godman Nithyananda Paramahamsa after a leaked video showed him engaging in sexual activities with Tamil actress Ranjitha.

Ichchadhari Sant Swami Bhimanand

Ichchadhari Sant Swami Bhimanand Ji Maharaj Chitrakoot Wale was arrested twice for being involved in a large-scale sex racket in Delhi and later in Mumbai.
