Kanwaljit Singh gets replaced in ‘Sandwich’ due to Covid-19 curb: ‘Will authorities wake up when a senior actor commits suicide?’
Kanwaljit Singh gets replaced by a young actor in his show titled 'Sandwich.'
As the shoots of television have resumed, the government has issued certain guidelines stating, that the cast and crew will not allow anyone older than 65 years, as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) authorities. However, Kanwaljit Singh is not happy with this decision as he has been replaced by a young actor in Sony Liv’s new serial ‘Sandwich.’
Talking to Film Information, he shared that is unhappy with these new rules, “So what do actors like me do? Hang up our boots? How can I be asked NOT to work?”
Further, Singh also said on how he rented a place near the shoot location, “I had decided that I won’t travel daily from home to Mira Road and back but will rather stay there with my staff, for which I had even rented a place.”
Lastly, he stated that he has no grudges against the actor nor the channel, “I have nothing against the new actor or the channel. But this rule needs to be changed. Otherwise, what will the hundreds of actors like me do? We are fond of working, we love our work, how can the government stop us? Will the authorities wake up when one senior actor, in depression for being out of work, commits suicide? Not every senior actor or unit member is well placed enough to tide over these difficult times by simply sitting at home, not working. Most of them need to work, some for financial reasons, others for the sheer love of work.”
Apart from Kanwaljit Singh, Prithvi Zutshi has also been told that his role in the TV show ‘Pyar Ki Luka Chupi’ has been terminated, due to the rules suggested by the government to curb the spread of coronavirus.
