Lockdown in Karnataka is likely to be extended as the positivity rate is still high in the state. Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa also hinted the same. He was of the view that as the cases are not yet under control in Karnataka, the state government will likely extend the lockdown till June 14.

The CM further hinted that relaxation may be given to certain sectors but in a phased manner. B S Yediyurappa said after discussing the situation with senior ministers and officials. the final decision will be taken.

He said, “I will have a discussion with everyone to make a decision on measures that need to be taken regarding lockdown. Most importantly I have decided to give permission to those involved in exports. So export-oriented business will be allowed from Thursday.”

Karnataka’s COVID-19 Technical Advisory Committee in its report to the government has mentioned that the positivity rate has to come below 5 percent. They added that the number of cases should be below 5,000, only then the restrictions can be relaxed.

The state government had initially announced 14 days “close down” from April 27, but subsequently imposed a complete lockdown from May 10 to 24, as the COVID cases continued to spike.

On Monday, Karnataka logged less than 20,000 new COVID-19 cases. The state also registered 411 deaths, taking the total number of infections to 26.04 lakh and the toll to 29,090. The state is currently under lockdown till June 7.
