Lee Grant set to join Manchester United from Stoke City

Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant is all set to join the Premier League giants, Manchester United. He will undergo a medical at Manchester United this week ahead of his move to Old Trafford. It was reported last week that Stoke would allow the 35-year-old to leave on a free transfer and United were keen to get him as cover should in case of injuries to senior keepers David de Gea and Sergio Romero.

Most likely Grant would be United’s third choice with Portugal Under 21 goalkeeper Joel Pereira to be sent on loan to gain more experience. Grant would be fortunate to get a game for United at all. Apparently the question has been asked by many United supporters. Why are they signing him at all?

Stoke City signed Grant on a permanent deal from Derby in January 2017 after he was initially bought on loan as cover for the then injured Jack Butland. Grant made 30 appearances for Stoke that season but featured just three times in the Premier League.
