LG Launches Dual-Screen 5G Smartphone With Vein Unlock & Screen Speakers

291

LG seems to have taken a long jump by launching its new flagship mobile phone LG G8 ThinQ with the advanced biometric and front camera feature. Yes, you read that right, you would not need to touch the screen to unlock the screen and receive calls. LG G8 ThinQ has light sensors to scan the veins in a user’s hand or to recognise their face. South Korea’s LG Electronics has launched its latest smartphone with features that several companies failed to launch.

LG’s latest mobile phone comes with a 6.1-inch OLED display, which is a first for a device belonging to the company’s G-series of flagships. It packs a 3500mAh battery and 6GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The company did not give in-display sensor in LG G8 ThinQ and opted for a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Apart from all these features, it has another unique feature; its display embeds the earpiece and doesn’t come with a traditional speaker.

The phone features an updated front shooting camera which company describes Z-Camera. It basically houses a ToF sensor which can sense gestures, motion, and depth. However, here is where things go awry; the front camera system has a feature called Hand ID, and by using this feature user can unlock the phone by holding your palm in front of the selfie camera.

The new front-facing camera feature has been developed by Germany’s Infineon Technologies, can scan in three dimensions – making it more secure than existing biometric methods of unlocking phones such as fingerprints.

At a launch event in Barcelona, LG product evangelist David Montanya said that it would be harder to ‘spoof’ than the FaceID feature used in Apple’s iPhone X because the vein structure in a user’s hand has less than one chance in a billion of being the same as anyone else’s.

LG has not yet released the dates or announced the prices for the new flagship phones, but said that the 5G model should hit stores in the first half of the year.  You’ve never experienced sound like this from a phone before because the entire screen is the speaker. The display directs sound toward you for a rich, clear, and immersive sound experience that also lets you hear calls easily and comfortably.

Notably, LG is the world’s No.7 smartphone maker, witnessed its sales reduced by a quarter last year as Chinese rivals Huawei Technologies and Xiaomi grabbed market share in a slightly weaker global market.
