Nawaz Sharif to be arrested on arrival, Pak bars media of live telecast

The Pakistan’s media regulatory authority has ordered television channels not to go for a live telecast of the briefings of political leaders which include “defamatory and derogatory content”, ahead of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s return on Friday.

The prohibition order of the live telecast comes as a precaution and effort to black out Nawaz Sharif when he lands in Pakistan on Friday evening. The media regulatory authority do not want to turn the public opinion in Sharif’s favour ahead of the July 25 general election in Pakistan. The authority had specified it clearly that the no speeches by political leaders against the judiciary, armed forces and the political leadership having “malicious and indecent content” should be aired live.

As Sharif is landing in Islamabad with daughter Maryam Nawaz on Firday, several flight have been diverted to Lahore airport, Heavy security arrangement have been made in and around the airport and in-route to the jail where he would be taken away straight forward.

Earlier, A Pakistani accountability court had sentenced Sharif for a 10 years imprisonment for corruption practices which links to his family’s purchase of four London flats. Additionally, Sharif faces two more corruption charges in the Panama Paper scandal.

The prohibition order comes after Sharif declared that he was returning from London “despite seeing a prison cell in front of him”, reports NDTV.  With the dramatic return of the three time premier on Friday, ahead of July 25 general election,  cricket star-turned-politician Imran Khan’s  Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is all set to take political advantage. However, Sharif had accused Pakistan’s army and its intelligence agency Inter Services Intelligence of working in favour of rivals such as Imran Khan’s party.
