Ness Wadia sentenced to two year jail term in Japan for possession of drugs

Preity Zinta's ex-boyfriend Ness Wadia arrested and sentenced to two year imprisonment for possession of drugs in Japan.

Ness Wadia the heir to the eminent Wadia Group has been arrested in Japan for illegal possession of drugs. Wadia who was on a skiing holiday was arrested in early March from the New Chitose Airport in Japan. He has been sentenced two years of imprisonment as per the Financial Times report.

As reported by Financial Times, Wadia, the business tycoon and the owner of the Kings XI Punjab cricket team, arrested at New Chitose Airport in the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido in early March after the customs officials found 25g of cannabis resin in his trouser pockets. The Sapporo District Court has handed him a two-year prison sentence, which was suspended for five years.

The report further adds that Ness Wadia had admitted to the possession of drugs saying that it was for his personal use. He spent a period in detention before his indictment on March 20 and an undisclosed period of detention before a court hearing.

As per CNBC-TV18, Wadia group had denied reports of Ness Wadia’s arrest.

Japan is gearing for 2020 Olympics and Rugby World Cup. It has therefore implemented the narcotics law that is already quite strict, more stringently.

The Wadia group had started its journey in 1736 to build ships for the East India Company. They are the owners of Britannia Industries, GoAir, with the total market valuation standing at $13.1billion. Ness is the eldest son of Nusli Wadia with a net worth of $7 billion.
