Notably, this comes a day after the Uttar Pradesh police disclosed a plot to kill former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.

The joint delegation, led by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and BJP state president Shwait Malik, in a memorandum, noted that the UP Police’s disclosure about Khalistani supporters’ plot to attack Akali leadership and Akali rallies after snatching weapons from police was very serious.

The memorandum seeking intervention of the Governor read, “After this disclosure, it can be easily made out that Punjab is again heading towards grip of terrorism. The entire functioning of Punjab government so far and its alliance with hardline elements also gives clear indications of pushing State into dark phase.”

“Anti-national forces want to silence Badal as he stands for Hindu-Sikh unity. The Congress is playing into their hands by sponsoring protests against the SAD as well as its senior leadership,” the delegation said in a memorandum.

While Sukhbir cited the recent attack on him and protest outside “pandal” of a religious congregation at Nikke Ghumni village in Gurdaspur, Malik said the Congress was playing with fire in the same manner that its leadership did in the mid-eighties which resulted in the advent of terrorism in the state. He further asserted that the SAD-BJP combine would not let anyone disturb Hindu-Sikh unity in the state.

The delegation also apprised the Governor about unjust policies of the Congress government, including its recent decision not to regularise the services of 8,886 teachers.

It is to be noted that the Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday arrested three criminals in Shamli district and unearthed a Khalistani plot to disrupt rallies of former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and target Punjab leaders opposed to Khalistan.
