QS World University Rankings: IIT Mumbai, IISC Bengaluru In Top 200

QS World University Rankings: 3 Indian Institutes In Top 200; IIT Mumbai, IISC Bengaluru and IIT Delhi


Three Indian universities: IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and IISc Bangalore have achieved a top-200 position. This is in the QS World University Rankings 2022. Thirty-five Indian institutes of higher education are featured in this year’s table of 1,300 universities. In the overall rankings, three Indian institutions have figured in the top 200 universities of the world list.

The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, is the world’s top research university as per the citations per faculty indicator. IISC has got a perfect score of 100 out of 100 for the citations per faculty (CPF) metric. This is in the analysis by London-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

As per a press statement issued by QS, “According to the Citations Per Faculty (CPF) indicator, when universities are adjusted for faculty size (the size of the institution is taken into account for calculating the CPF), IISc Bangalore is the world’s top research university, achieving a perfect score of 100/100 for this metric.”

IIT Delhi became India’s second-best university and ranked 185. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay is India’s top-ranked institute for the fourth consecutive year. IIT Madras rose 20 places and now ranks at 255th whereas IIT Kharagpur fared at 280.

The top three institutions globally are: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Oxford, and Stanford University ranked at number one, two, and three respectively.

Institutions and universities are evaluated on the basis of six indicators-academic reputations, employer reputation, citations per faculty, faculty/student ratio, international faculty ratio, and international student ratio.
