Sunday was the day to increase the tally of arrests in the Sabarimala Temple row and this time, it was for activist Rahul Easwar, who was held for his alleged provocative remarks on the issue. Already more than 3,000 activists have been arrested by the Kerala police for preventing women from entering the temple earlier this month.

Easwar was arrested for his alleged provocative comments during the press conference at Kochi on the Sabarimala row. In that press meet, he had allegedly said that there were people ready to ‘make wounds in their hand and spill blood in the temple’ to force the closure of the hill shrine in case any woman of menstruating age managed to enter the temple, reports NDTV.

It is to be known that Easwar belongs to the Thazhamon family of Sabarimala priests, who allegedly protested against the entry of women in the temple. A complaint filed by a person from Thiruvananthapuram, said the police.

Supreme Court in its last month’s verdict had allowed women of all ages to enter the temple of Lord Ayyappa. Police have arrested altogether 3,346 people from across the state and registered 517 cases against the protesters, who barred women not to enter the shrine.

Despite the apex court’s order and high security, women — aged between 11-49 years — could not enter the temple amid protests. Political differences between RSS and Communists were also observed since last month.
