See how the ‘Statue of Unity’ looks from space

Recently, an American company has captured a stunning image of the world’s largest statue from space. This 597-feet Statue of Unity of India’s ‘Iron Man’- Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel has been shared by the American Constellation of Satellites owned by Sky Lab.

In the image, one can see the Statue of Unity from top angle with River Narmada flowing near it.

In 2017, incidentally, when Indian Space Research Organisation made a world record of launching 104 satellites together, there were 88 earth imaging Dove Satellites from the same American company inboard the PSLV.

On October 31, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel’s statue was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kevadiya in Gujarat. The statue is said to be 177 feet higher than China’s Spring Temple Buddha, which was the tallest statue till now. Notably, it is twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty in New York and was built at an estimated cost of Rs 2,989 crore.

However, people and organisations across the world has criticised the government over the astronomical amount spent towards the making of this statue.

As per reports, condemning the blatant use of British taxpayer’s money — as foreign aid — by the Indian government, Tory MP Peter Bone was of the opinion that Britain should not contribute to India which believes in making statues rather than using the aid for women’s rights, funding solar panels and investment in low-carbon transport.

As stated by the British parliamentarian, the English taxpayer donated £1.17 billion in foreign aid and Indian government utilised £330 million for the construction of 597 ft tall bronze memorial of Sardar Patel —‘Statue of Unity’. The statue took 56 months to complete on a bend of the Narmada river in Gujarat.
