The Girl In The Fireplace took place during David Tennant’s run as The Doctor. It featured Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) and Mickey Smith (Noel Clarke) as they joined The Doctor for the iconic adventure. The episode has The Doctor and his companions arrive on a spaceship during the 51st century.

It tells the story of Reinette (Sophia Myles), a woman from the 18th Century in France. The Doctor later finds out she was King Louis XV’s mistress Madame de Pompadour. However, trouble soon follows as Reinette has to be rescued from clockwork androids. The show focuses on the relationship that develops between The Doctor and Pompadour, who always meet each other out of order. Steven Moffat explored this idea further with the character of River Song (Alex Kingston).

The episode was much loved at the time of its release and has gone on to become one of the best episodes in the modern Doctor Who. Now Steven Moffat has come up with a prequel for the beloved Doctor Who episode titled Pompadour. It will be a part of the official Doctor Who online watch-along of The Girl in the Fireplace scheduled for May 6.

Sophia Myles confirmed the news via Twitter. She posted a shot of the script’s front page and confirmed that the prequel is being written by Moffat.

”Reinette rises again! I have some homework to do… #Clockdown”.
