India celebrates National Engineers Day on September 15 each year. The day is celebrated to appreciate the contribution of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. A Bharat Ratna awardee, Visvesvaraya was born on Sept 15, 1861, in Karnataka. He went on to achieve many engineering marvels that left an impact on the development of India. M Visvesvaraya completed his Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of Madras and pursued civil engineering at College of Science in Pune. He was a member of the London Institution of Civil Engineers before he was awarded a fellowship by the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bangalore. He also had numerous universities, including Visvesvaraya Technological University in Belagavi, named after him.

Visvesvaraya installed an irrigation system with water floodgates at the Khadakvasla reservoir near Pune to raise the flood supply level and storage to the highest levels. This was also installed at Gwalior’s Tigra Dam and Mysuru’s Krishnaraja Sagara (KRS) dam. Visvesvaraya was responsible for the construction of Krishna Raja Sagara Dam in Mysore. He was also the chief designer of the flood protection system of Hyderabad. The eminent engineer breathed his last in 1962.

South superstar, Akkineni Nagarjuna is an engineer. He has a degree in Automobile Engineering. Nagarjuna completed one year of his Bachelor of Engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University. Earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

2. Kriti Sanon:

Kriti Sanon is a known name in Bollywood and Telugu cinema. The ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ actress also holds an engineering degree. She has a BTech degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida.

3. Taapsee Pannu:

Taapsee Pannu a known name in Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu industry. She is an actor and an engineer as well. Taapsee has earned a degree in computer engineering. Yes, the actress has done her graduation in Computer Science Engineering from the Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology in New Delhi. She has also worked as a software engineer for a short period before entering the world of entertainment.

4. R. Madhavan:

R. Madhavan an Indian actor and producer has a humongous fan following all thanks to his acting chops and good looks. He is a known name in Hindi and South cinema. Not many know Madhavan is actually graduated from Rajaram College in Kolhapur in electronics.

5. Vicky Kaushal:

The rising star of Bollywood who marked his debut with ‘Masaan’ grew from strength to strength with each new film. From ‘Sanju’ to ‘Uri’ the actor has garnered immense love from his humongous fan following. Vicky is also an engineer and has completed his degree in electronics and telecommunications from Mumbai’s Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology.

6. Kartik Aaryan:

The ‘Pyar Ka Punchnama’ actor is truly going places, all thanks to his chocolate boy looks and acting chops. He too holds an engineering degree. Kartik came to Mumbai to pursue his engineering and ended up looking for modelling and acting jobs. He pursued an engineering degree in biotechnology from Navi Mumbai’s D Y Patil College of Engineering. But completed his degree on the insistence of his mother after the release of his movie ‘Pyar Ka Punchnama’.

Sonu Sood is not only an actor, model, and producer who has worked in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Punjabi films. He also holds a degree in Engineering. Sonu who was recently seen playing the role of an antagonist in Rohit Shetty’s ‘Simmba’ has completed Electrical Engineering from Nagpur.
