Major fire breaks out at slum in Delhi's Tughlakabad, over 1,000 shanties gutted

A massive fire broke out in the slums of South-East Delhi‘s Tughlakabad area on Monday night around 12:15 am. The fire has gutted more that 1000 shanties. At least 30 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the raging inferno. No casualties were reported.

The police and fire department took out all the slum occupants in time even as most were fast asleep.

Rajendra Prasad Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South East, told ANI, “We received information about a fire at around 1 am at slums in Tughlakabad. All police staff reached here immediately. It is being said that around 1,000-1,200 shanties caught fire. Locals are saying most people came out of their shanties after a fire broke. However, it cannot check as it is a big fire.

SS Tuli, Deputy Chief Fire Officer of South Delhi Zone, said, ” 30 fire tenders were rushed to the area to douse the massive fire. The fire is now under control and the fire department officials are trying to find out the reason behind the fire.

The fire was controlled at around 3:40 am, but around 1500 shanties were burnt, leaving Hundreds of people homeless.
