A blast at a popular eatery, Gokul Chat on August 25, 2007, claimed the lives of 32 people and it was followed by the death of 10 more at the open theatre in Lumbini Park, which isn’t very far from the state’s secretariat.

Five accused in the case, alleged to be members of the Indian Mujahideen were arrested by the Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of the Telangana Police after they had conducted their own investigation in the case.

On September 4, two out of these five were acquitted by the court.

Charges of Section 302 (murder) and other relevant acts in the IPC, and parts of the Explosive Substances Act were imposed on the accused with relation to the twin bomb blasts and also with respect to the retrieval of the unexploded bomb in the Dilsuknagar area in Hyderabad.
