Bollywood legendary actress Rekha turned 64 today, she has once again proved why she is called the ultimate diva of Bollywood. In her decades long journey in Bollywood, Rekha has enacted in hundreds of films to wow us all.
Rekha made her acting debut in 1966 in Telugu film Rangula Ratnam as a child actress. She made her debut as a lead role four years after her acting debut with Sawan Bhadon. The veteran actress made her Bollywood debut with Anjana Safar.
There was no looking back for Rekha after that. She played several roles on television too. She has portrayed the role from sexy-ladylove to the damsel in distress, the diva has managed to ace any actress she has portrayed on the silver screen.
The actress also has ventured into those grey areas where her contemporaries have not dared to venture. Making us respect her even more. Despite the success of several of her early films, Rekha was often panned for her looks and it was not until the mid-to-late 1970s that she got recognition as an actress. In her five decades long years, the actress had worked in more than 180 films. She has also received many accolades for her performances in films.
Rekha has won three Filmfare Awards, two for performing as a Best Actress and one for Best Supporting Actress, for her role in Khubsoorat (1980), Khoon Bhari Maang (1988) and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996), respectively. Her portrayal of a classical courtesan in Umrao Jaan (1981) won her the National Film Award for Best Actress.
Although Rekha’s career has gone through certain ups and down, but, she has reinvented herself time and again and has been credited for her ability to sustain her status. In 2010, Rekha was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India.
The Veteran actor Rekha had also been nominated as a Rajya Sabha member in the year 2012 and retired in 2018. She has earned Rs 99.59 lakh, or nearly a crore, as an MP in the last six years.
