Selena Gomez Claims Justin Bieber Was Emotionally Abusive

Selena Gomez has bounced back from a hard year with her chart-topping album Rare. The singer suffered through lupus, body shaming, and heartbreak but came out stronger through every challenge. As she enjoys the success of her recent hits Lose You To Love Me and Look At Her Now, Selena Gomez opened up about her relationship with ex Justin Bieber.

The singer said she felt emotionally abused in her relationship with the Baby singer. She said that the negative aspects of the relationship inspired her latest album Rare. Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber had an on and off relationship that started in February 2011. The couple broke up in November 2012 citing work schedule as the reason for their breakup. However, rumors circulated that the actual reason for the breakup was Justin’s infidelity. Selena’s best friend, Taylor Swift might have confirmed this during her online spat with Bieber. The couple dated on and off until 2017 from then. This cycle ended when Justin Bieber started dating Hailey Baldwin in June 2018. Bieber and Baldwin married in September 2018, taking fans and Selena by surprise.

According to ET, Selena Gomez reflected on her relationship with Justin Bieber in a recent interview. The Fetish singer said, “I felt I didn’t get a respectful closure, and I had accepted that, but I know I needed some way to just say a few things that I wish I had said. I felt like this was a great way to just say, you know, it’s done, and I understand that, and I respect that, and now here I am stepping into a whole other chapter.”

Selena said she felt like a victim of emotional abuse in her relationship with Justin and she’s glad it’s over now. “It’s dangerous to stay in a victim mentality. And I’m not being disrespectful, I do feel I was a victim to certain abuse. I had to understand the choices I was making. As much as I definitely don’t want to spend the rest of my life talking about this, I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I’ve ever felt and I’ve found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible.”
